In 2023 the Society of North American Goldsmiths @

In 2023 the Society of North American Goldsmiths @snagmetalsmith put out a call for "editorial" photos. The photos were not just about showcasing the object: the intent was create a concept to tell a story.

The concept behind the photo I submitted of my Half-Persian Viking Knit bracelet was "A Bit of Trail Magic".

"Occasionally, while hiking through the forest, I’ve come across a painted rock lovingly left on a tree trunk. What is the intention of the person who left it there? It reminds me of the ancient practice of leaving votive offerings to please the local gods and nature spirits. Or is it part of the modern practice of art abandonment, where the desire is just to leave a bit of “trail magic” with a gift that surprises and delights the next person who encounters it?"

The final week of the #30x30directwatercolor was a bit more challenging but I'm happy to have stuck it out!

4) A very loose sketch of a tiger lily

Week 3 of the #30x30directwatercolor challenge! This week after I expressed frustration with the water brush again, another participant suggested buying a Kuretake flat water brush, and oh my! What a fun brush to lay down colour with! I'm looking forward to experimenting with it.

1. Peak Peony at the Oshawa Botanical Garden.
2. An Angler in the Humber River. A first (and failed) attempt to capture moving water.
3. Daisies along the Airport Trail.
4. Stella keeps watch over Her Domain.
5. Sangria for Two, from the Bougie Bites event at the McLaughlin Gallery this week.
6. A very quick and loose sketch of Oshawa Creek using the new flat brush 🥳 Another attempt and imo more successful attempt at water.
7. A Garden Basket, hanging from a neighbour's fence.

Still taking a break from jewelry. Just completed

Still taking a break from jewelry. Just completed Week 2 of the #30x30directwatercolor challenge.

1. Breakfast with my Favourite Curmudgeon
2. Tried working wet in wet. The sketchbook I'm using doesn't have the right kind of paper for this technique.
3. Our hike for the day crossed a bridge.
4. Parkwood Carriage House Window
5. An attempt at surreptitious painting on location at the mall. It was very nerve wracking!
6. My hike took me past the local regional airport, where I found clovers and planes taking off.
7. @stellathebarbet patiently waiting for me to notice that she wants to play.

Hi everybody! I've been a bit quiet lately online but that doesn't mean I've disappeared! I'm taking a short break from jewelry to try my hand at something completely different: a #30×30DirectWatercolor Challenge! For the month of June I'll be #outofmyelement creating a painting a day, without pencil sketching - just putting brush to paper and go! Here's what I've done in the first week!
